Reading with Miss Amanda Book Series

As a child, Amanda struggled with the traditional learning process, and later discovered it was because she had a learning difference, dyslexia. Later her two children were also diagnosed with dyslexia. Dyslexia is the most common learning difference that causes children to struggle in school. It is characterized by difficulties with processing words into meaningful information. Amanda learned to identify a pattern among children who struggled to visually recognize lowercase letters and who did not understand the relationship between the letter and the sound that the letter made.

Amanda remains a strong supporter of her enrolled students, and  is still personally involved with her Montessori teachers and thier student's educational needs. Amanda has been a teacher, reading tutor and mentor for over 40+ years. This gave her the opportunity to observe from an early age the benefits of a strong and connected education journey. During Amanda's years with the school, many parents have sought her guidance for reading educational support at home. This has inspired her to write a book series with intuitive lessons for children in the 3-6 age group. With step lessons offered simply by reading the dialog of a real Montessori teacher in the book.

Amanda has completed this series of books titled “Reading with Miss Amanda” which focus on phonemic awareness and letter sound recognition. After five long years of working on this series, she is excited to at last have a tool to support parents at home to show their child how to learn to read and at their own pace. As both a Montessori teacher and a mother of two children with learning differences, Amanda has personally witnessed the struggle that children may have with learning to read. Her goal for the “Reading with Miss Amanda” series is to make learning to read a fun, confidence-building, and educational experience for all children. The series is used in all three of the Montessori classrooms at Big City along with the traditional Montessori language materials.
