Fostering curiosity and growth through guided, expert-led learning.

Typical day.

  • Outdoor time is an important part of every day at Big City Montessori. Our children have opportunities to run, climb, explore, play together, and enjoy fresh air while developing gross motor skills, confidence, and social connections. Just like inside the classroom, outdoor play encourages independence, curiosity, creativity, and learning through movement and exploration.

  • During uninterrupted work time, children are free to choose activities that spark their interest and work at their own pace. Teachers gently guide each child, encouraging independence, concentration, and a natural love of learning.

  • Mealtimes are a chance to slow down, connect, and practice independence. Children enjoy nutritious snacks and a hot lunch together while building everyday skills like serving themselves, cleaning up, and practicing table manners.

  • After lunch, children who need a nap are given a calm, comfortable space to rest and recharge. Nap time is optional, and children who do not sleep can enjoy quiet activities during this part of the day.

  • Our enrichment program brings even more opportunities for discovery into the school day through music, Spanish, yoga, and summer tennis. Throughout the year, we also welcome special guests from beekeepers and dancers to animal educators as well as parents who share traditions and experiences that are culturally meaningful to their families.

  • After the Montessori work day comes to a close, our thoughtfully curated after-care program continues with engaging activities, creative play, outdoor time, and opportunities to connect with friends in a more relaxed setting.

What’s on our shelves?

Each classroom features child-height shelves with carefully curated materials that support independent exploration across literacy, numeracy, social-emotional learning, motor development, and science. Combining classic Montessori materials with teacher-created activities, children’s work evolves continuously in response to emerging interests.

Language

Practical Life activities build independence, concentration, coordination, and confidence through meaningful everyday tasks such as pouring, cleaning, preparing food, and caring for the classroom.

Mathematics

Montessori math materials make abstract concepts tangible. Children work hands-on with quantities, numbers, counting, patterns, and early operations, building a strong foundation for mathematical thinking.

Practical Life

Sensorial materials help children explore and understand the world through their senses. Hands-on activities develop observation, comparison, problem-solving, and an understanding of concepts like size, shape, color, texture, and sound.

Cultural Studies

Cultural studies introduce children to geography, science, nature, art, music, and the wider world. These experiences encourage curiosity and help children develop an appreciation for different people, places, and cultures.

Sensorial

Language is woven throughout the Montessori classroom. Children build vocabulary, strengthen communication, explore letter sounds, and gradually progress toward reading and writing at their own pace.

Enrichment.

Our enrichment programs bring movement, creativity, language, and fun into the school week. Children enjoy music, Spanish, and yoga throughout the year, with tennis offered during the summer months.
